Spaghetti Bridge (EDC #1)
For out first Engineering Design Challenge (EDC) we had to design and build a bridge made out of spaghetti. We were in a group of 3. My group members were Matthew and Caleb. The tasks we had to get done before starting to build out project was that we had to hand in the technical draftings, CAD model and step by step instructions for the bridge. At the first day of our construction our teacher Mr. Everitt said that we wont be building our own bridges, we have to exchange our technical drafts, CAD model, instructions and material with another group and they will build ours and we will build theirs.

Recycled Furniture (EDC #2) |
|
We recently did our second EDC challenge and we were instructed to build a piece for furniture out of the recycled material. We were put in a group of 3 again and this time my partners were Darrion and Tyler. After some brain storming we decided we would build a fridge that you can sit on. You could sit on it and watch TV and also keep your drink cold at the same time. First we had to do the CAD modeling and Technical drawings as usual but this time we also had to do a schematic drawing because we had to input some sort of circuit in our model. I also learned plastic welding during this project because first we had the idea that we would make our fridge stronger by plastic welding the sides but then we change the idea to make the handle out of out a plastic water bottle so we had to shape the handle using a heat gun. One of the challenges we faced were that we couldn't find the motion sensor which we were trying to place into our circuit so that it senses when the door opens so it could turn on the lights inside. Our fridge was successful because it could hold more than 300 Ibs and everything worked as planned.

Smart House (EDC#3)
This is our Smart House challenge, We were put into groups of 4 and asked to design a smart house which used some sort of control or security system. We were given a month to complete the physical build of our house and then 2 weeks for the coding and integration of the security system. Our Smart house included a buzzer so if it detects something the main door the alarm will go off so in reality if this was a real house u can activate the buzzer once u leave the house and if someone got in through the doors or windows the buzzer will go off. Our second security system was a spy camera, it could record videos, voice, send pictures if motion detector is active and it could also call you and show you a live recording whats going on in your house and then you can activate the voice recorder from your phone as well and you can hear what the intruders in your house are talking about.

Everyday Robotics Challenge (EDC#4)
This is our second last EDC and our task was to come up with a robot design that could solve an everyday problem. We were partnered into groups of 2 this time and after some brainstorming we decided that we will make a pet food dispenser robot which could be programmed so that at certain times of the day, it would go to your pet bowl and fill it up so you don't have to worry about feeding your pets anymore.
